2011 Porsche Cayman 3.4 S Black Edition pdk- advice sought

Hi, I was wondering if you Porsche experts/specialists could help point me in the right direction. A friend of mine bought a Porsche Cayman 3.4s black edition pdk (only 500 made) a few years back from a porche main dealer as a used car and I've always had a soft spot for it. Well it's finally come for him to sell it and he's asked if I want first dibs on it. I've had a look at the service history and it hasn't been serviced since 2015 at 22k miles. It's currently on 45k. He's very reasonable and knows it needs a service etc. I've rang a local Porsche main dealer and they reckon it needs new spark plugs, drive belt and a full service at £1500. I would be happy to do this if I can buy the car "right". I've had a look on we buy any car and they value it at around £24k and the sellers thrown a figure around of about £20k as the selling price. I've only found one other example for sale, same year 2011 with 17k miles on the clock and the dealer wants £34k!! Does £20k seem reasonable to you guys bearing in mind il probably spend the £1500 straight away and probably have 4 wheels to refurb if the sellers driving is anything to go by. Although this model is a limited edition per se of only 500 units, I'm aware it's not massively special in any way. This would be my first foray into Porsche ownership and it would be great to buy into a limited edition which I would love if it wernt to lose a fortune every year or if I did a reasonable amount of mileage in it. I don't plan on doing 15k a year in it, more of a weekend car but I am aware it's on 45k already...if I took it up to say 80k miles would the value really plummet or would it be a safeish buy moving forward? Many thanks in advance..

Black edition Cayman was a Cayman S with a special trim pack interior and exterior all in black. It also ran the Cayman R engine tune so 330hp like the R.
Would be a nice car for the price 20K.... i think i'd want to get a independent check done on it though..even though you know the car/owner... As a 2011 car it really should have had 2 minor and 1major service + Brake service( at least pads) by now based on the 20K/2year - which ever is sooner rule.

I agree regarding servicing as I like to service my cars at least on a yearly basis especially with a sports car like a Porsche. I never could understand people who spend £50k on a car and then scrimp on the yearly servicing..

I would paid £23-25k for that car.

Maybe my hopes where too high...it now transpires it is a bog standard cayman s 3.4 pdk with a black "kit" or just specced Black. Black wheels, Black in colour and black badges etc.just come off the phone to him and he said it's not a black edition just a black kit? It has pdk and sports Chrono pack, he's going to send over the stuff he got from the dealer when he bought he car as he's not a car nut and doesn't know what the cars got or hasn't bar the above...

...does he know it has a service schedule?

I'd be wary now.

Yes I'm sure he does, just hasn't had it serviced regularly as some people don't bother due to either a lack of respect for the vehicle or don't want to cough up £500 plus...I suspect it was a bit of both in this case.

I know three people who have bought Boxster versions of these recently for over £30k albeit from OPC and with much less miles. Even with the service history issues etc £20k would be a very good buy IMO.

I'm going to go for it as long as he's happy to sell. He has a funeral he wants to get out of the way next week and then he said we can sort it out. Here's hoping I can buy it for £20k, il treat it to a full service and 4 new tyres and that'll be the best part of £2k/£2.5k so hopefully il have a fully serviced ready to go summer toy with fresh shoes on for a very reasonable price! Can't wait!

Presuming good condition and not stratospheric mileage, any gen 2 Cayman S at less than £25K is a good price IMO.

P.s. you'll now if turns out to be a true black edition by having a limited edition plate on the glove box.

I've spoken to a Porsche dealer and they emailed me a copy of the original spec sheet, it appears to have everything a black edition had but isn't coming up as a black edition...it even had a 10hp engine enhancement on the option sheet as per the black edition! Porsche crest in seat head rest, sports Chrono plus, black 19 inch Boxster spider wheels, black badges etc etc

If it has all the kit, but not the badging, could it be an ex press car or a demo vehicle?

So I have an update, it's NOT a black edition but is very nicely specced. Or so I believe, (this will be my first Porsche ao I'm not up to date on specs etc). Car has the following;

Pdk
Comfort package
Design package
Door entry guards in stainless steel
Heated seats
Infotainment package
Park assist
Sport chrono package plus
Sport seats
Sport design steering wheel
Top tinted windscreen
19 inch black spyder alloy wheels

The cars on 45k miles, needs a big service which is around £1500 and I'd imagine 4 new tyres at maybe a £1k.
I've agreed £20k for the car and I've got to pay the service and tyres on top. £22500 all in makes me a very happy man! Am I right in thinking these cars will depreciate over the years or will they hold there money quite well? It doesn't make a huge difference it would just be nice to own a car that doesn't lose thousands every year as all my previous cars have...cheers!

Prices have remained fairly static for last 12 months for 987 Gen.2 cars, I think they will hold up pretty well. Nice car at a good price, enjoy.

£1500 is a bit ott I would think. My 981 was around £1100. I've also just put on Michelin MP4S tyres (20") for £890 (also just got a £100 off card from Michelin, so really £790). An extra £2.5k is a bit strong imo.
Looks a good spec, and should hold value fairly well.

I rang my local OPC and they said it needs a drive belt change, spark plugs, service which includes pdk fluid change. Funnily enough, the guy I'm buying from reckons he got a quote for £900 from a different OPC for the same work! Just out of interest, where did you get your tyres from? I put the reg into Kwik fit and the option never came up for the mp4s. Cheers!
