Husqvarna has captured the very essence of Supermoto and brought it to the street. The 701 Supermoto comes with all-round WP suspension and an impressive 74 HP liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with advanced electronic technology.

Designed with a state-of-the-art lightweight trellis chassis this Husqvarna offers precise handling for the most experienced of riders.

This Husqvarna has an engine that fulfills the aggressive traditional Supermoto role but also cruises at 80 mph with plenty more on tap.

The suspension soaks up the bumps but also stays controlled whilst braking into corners. The traction control and cornering ABS comes in very useful if you go to fast into a corner or get a little giddy on the way out.

In 2020 Husqvarna also revealed their new FS 450, a purpose-built Supermoto for racing. Although the FS 450 is for competition use only it could be made street legal which would be something special.

Husqvarna SMR 510 - 2005 To 2010

  • Engine: 501cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled
  • Max. Power output: 60 HP @ 8,000 rpm
  • Max. Torque: 49 Nm @ 6,400 rpm
  • Gearbox: 6 speed
  • Seat height: 820mm
  • Weight: 118 kg
  • Price: £3,000 – £5,000

The Husqvarna SMR 510 is pretty much a full on race bike that is road legal. If you can handle the hardcore characteristics then the SMR 510 offers great value for money and excellent build quality.

The Husqvarna is lightweight and has sublime handling. With an insane power to weight ratio that means keeping the front wheel down will be the biggest problem.

A Supermoto that is most definitely not suited for commuting or long distance riding and isn't keen to go over 100 mph. However below 80 mph this engineering marvel will embarrass nearly all superbikes on the twisty roads.

Husqvarna did not compromise when they created this race focused Supermoto, although such focus comes with more maintenance than your average Supermoto. So this is something to bear in mind before purchasing one.

These Supermoto bikes are now getting hard to find. You'll be joining an exclusive club if you are lucky enough to get hold of one.

If the SMR 510 seems a bit too hardcore then Husqvarna also offer the SM610 which is a less extreme Supermoto that doesn't require the same running costs.

Some Owner Reviews

"Ride one. Buy one. Love it. It's NOT a DRZ, it's not amazingly reliable unless you're comparing it to the Aprilia. Its range is about 50 miles, and most of those will only be pin the rear wheel. It's a hooligan, it's not happy or designed for commuting. The seat will destroy your ass. The pipes will melt all your gear. The bike shakes at top speed. The bike hates puttering around and only likes going wide open. It's miserably hot in traffic. Oil must be changed (all three filters) every 250-300 miles. You must check and inspect the valves and will still likely need to rebuild the engine at 6,000 miles. Parts are hard to find. No dealership wants to touch it to work on it. It will leak oil. Just a few drips, but you can't fix it, it's just what it does. This is the worst bike to ever be a form of transportation, but it's the most fun bike you will ever own. Ever. If this bike doesn't make you grin and giggle when you ride it then you're riding it wrong or you're dead inside. Find one, buy one, love it despite it's flaws".

"Awesome bike, have the 2010 model. Loving the power and wheelying everywhere. Only problem for me with this bike is fuel range. But its also a good thing because when my petrol is finished so is the senses in my ass".

"The worst bike ever?. won't go slow. shakes when you go fast. 65 mile range. This is the most impractical bike iv ever ridden but THE MOST FUN EVER I love this bike the thing is wild don't use it as a commuter its pointless keep it as a toy for the weekend and you will love it".

"I currently own a 510 smr, I have 2000 miles and reliability is excellent, change the oil often, keep a clean air cleaner element, i drive 100-plus miles daily with it, definitely recommended".

"For those looking for a thrilling, powerful, agile and slightly delinquent Supermotard, the SMR 510 fits the bill. This fearsome machine, designed first and foremost for the track and homologated for the road, must be tamed by a seasoned hand to bring out its true potential".
